Ghana’s Landmark GMO Case Reconvenes on Monday 12 October

The Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra is scheduled to reconvene the case submitted by lead plaintiffs Food Sovereignty Ghana (FSG) seeking an injunction on the commercialization and release of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) in Ghana on Monday October 12th 2015 at 9.00am.

In an interesting development, the Judge assigned to the case, Mr Kofi Essel Mensah was recently implicated in the recent bribery scandal that has rocked the judicial service. The Chief Justice has as of last week directed that seven judges including Judge Mensah be suspended from the Judicial Service pending investigations by a Committee. It is therefore likely that a new Judge will be assigned to the case.

FSG will continue to engage with Ghanaians on the issues surrounding GM products and will continue to expose and resist the creeping attempts by the big Ag corporations to impose GM foods on Ghanaians through industry-led propaganda, scientific inaccuracies. and chicanery, led by the agribusiness lobby and their local and international surrogates, against the wishes of the majority of Ghanaians.
